OP RICHARD TUTTLE. Institute of Contemporary Art, Amsterdam, 1991. Published in association with Sdu uitgeverij, The Hague. 204 pp. with 310 ills. (66 col., 2 foldout). 32 x 25 cm. ISBN 9012066654 In English.
Featuring fine pictorial documentation of an installation of 20 expressive sculptural assemblages produced by Tuttle (b. 1941) in 1988 and 89, this catalogue surveys the American abstract artist's career through an illustrated review of his one-man exhibitions from the mid-1960s to 1991 that emphasizes the variety of his interests and the site-specific character of his fragile paper reliefs, Minimalist drawings and enigmatic constructions of wood and canvas. A critical essay focused on the synthesis of sculpture and drawing central to Tuttle's oeuvre and an interview with Herbert and Dorothy Vogel (longtime patrons of the artist) are augmented with statements by art dealers and curators describing their associations with Tuttle over the course of his career.
