Offering a substantial survey of paintings, drawings and prints produced since 1979 by American artist Winters (b. 1949), this catalogue features fine reproductions of more than 160 painterly, abstract compositions in which ambiguous organic shapes and structures are suspended in an indefinite spatial dimension. Two critical essays discuss the anomalous position of Winters's work in the context of Neo-Expressionist and conceptual art of the 1980s, examine his vocabulary of botanical and anatomical images, and describe the significance of drawing to the evolution of his oeuvre.
