Documenting the first major exhibition devoted to the work of northern Italian architect Sottsass (1892-1953), father of the famous Memphis designer, this catalogue presents drawings, elevations and photographs illustrating nearly 300 projects, including civic and commercial buildings, private residences, churches and interior designs that reflect an integration of traditional and modernist styles. Seven essays evaluate the influence of Alpine vernacular forms and Vienna Secessionist architecture on his designs of the 1920s for buildings in the Trentino region and discuss his later involvement with the Rationalist movement in Turin.
