Published to coincide with an exhibition exploring Van Gogh's interest in Japanese prints and their influence on his work, this well-illustrated presentation of nearly 500 ukiyo-e images is a revised and substantially expanded edition of the 1978 catalogue Japanese Prints Collected by Vincent van Gogh (Worldwide 14375). Reproductions of the works, many accompanied by brief descriptions, are prefaced by an overview of the history of Japanese printmaking and a detailed discussion of the paintings of Van Gogh that most clearly reflect his interpretation of Japanese aesthetics and culture.
