OP DAVID TENIERS THE YOUNGER: PAINTINGS, DRAWINGS. Margret Klinge. Koninklijk Museum voor Schone Kunsten, Antwerp, 1991. Published in association with Snoeck-Ducaju & Zoon, Ghent. 336 pp. with 341 ills. (156 col.). 32 x 26 cm. ISBN 9053496167 In English.
Thoroughly documents the first major exhibition devoted to Flemish painter Teniers (1610-1690), a master colorist whose diverse oeuvre encompasses genre scenes of peasant life strongly influenced by the work of Brueghel the Elder, landscapes, still lifes, portraits, allegorical and religious works, and detailed views of the celebrated picture gallery of his patron Archduke Leopold Wilhelm, governor of the Spanish Netherlands. A biographical essay tracing the artist's career and noting his close relationship with Rubens precedes fine reproductions and lengthy scholarly discussions of 38 drawings and 103 paintings, among them eight copies of Italian Renaissance canvases from among the 242 Teniers painted as modelli for engraved illustrations to Theatrum Pictorium, his famous catalogue of the Archduke's collection.
