A significant survey of the expressively realistic oeuvre of Spanish painter Zuloaga, this catalogue features fine reproductions of 66 works spanning the artist's career, including examples of the society portraits, nudes, landscapes and dramatic studies of bullfighters and gypsies for which he achieved international renown in the early 20th century. Five essays discuss the strong influence of the painter's Basque heritage on his style and themes, his links to the work of El Greco and to such French artists as Manet and Degas, his critical reception in America, and his extensive activities as a collector.
