Illuminating the artistic origins and legacy of renowned German Expressionist Lehmbruck (1881-1919), this catalogue presents 16 notable sculptures and 58 preparatory figure sketches by the sculptor along with 29 sculptures and drawings by Belgian artist Minne (1866-1941), whose work inspired Lehmbruck, and some 30 early watercolors and drawings by Beuys (1921-1986) that reflect the influence of Lehmbruck's aesthetic and humanist concerns. Good reproductions of the three artists' highly expressive renderings of the human form accompany five essays and the text of a 1986 tribute to Lehmbruck by Beuys.
