ROSEMARIE TROCKEL. Sidra Stich and Elisabeth Sussman. Institute of Contemporary Art, Boston, 1991. Organized in association with University Art Museum, University of California, Berkeley. Published in association with Prestel-Verlag, Munich. 144 pp. with 83 ills. (48 col.). 30 x 23 cm. LC 90-86366 In English.
Documenting the first major American exhibition devoted to the complex oeuvre of German artist Trockel (b. 1952), this catalogue presents some 70 diverse works which address feminist, political and environmental issues and range from sculptural assemblages of found objects and natural materials mounted in glass display cases to knitted "paintings" and clothing patterned with logos, text or mathematical symbols. Two critical essays discuss the disorienting nature of Trockel's provocative body of work and explore her artistic vocabulary, which draws on anthropology and ethnography to challenge established notions of sexuality, culture and artistic production.
