Surveying more than 60 years of painting by Migishi (b. 1905), Japan's foremost woman artist working in a modern Western style, this catalogue features full-page reproductions of 82 colorful landscape and still-life abstractions that reflect the strong influence of such French artists as Dufy, Bonnard and Braque. Two brief critical texts and a substantial biographical essay provide a thorough review of the artist's pioneering career in Japan from the 1930s through the 60s and the works she produced during her residence in France from 1968 to 1989.
