Highlighting works drawn primarily from private collections, this catalogue presents more than 100 drawings and watercolors and a small selection of paintings by noted French artist Balthus (b. 1908), whose idiosyncratic oeuvre encompasses naturalistic landscapes, still lifes and interiors but has been dominated since the 1950s by softly rendered sketches of languid adolescent girls. Diverse short texts informally describe the artist's career in Paris and Italy and his distinctive style and themes.
