Documents a significant private collection of works by California Impressionist, Modernist and Regionalist painters of the first half of the 20th century, presenting 57 landscapes, portraits, still lifes and genre scenes by 43 artists including William Wendt, Granville Redmond, Guy Rose, Stanton Macdonald-Wright, David Park and Morgan Russell. Tipped-in color reproductions of the exhibited works are accompanied by substantial descriptive commentaries and biographical notes on the artists, and by two essays discussing the trends reflected in the paintings and questioning the suitability of the "regionalist" label often applied to California art of the period.
