VAN GOGH EN DEN HAAG (Van Gogh and The Hague). Ed. by Michiel van der Mast and Charles Dumas. Haags Historisch Museum, The Hague, 1990. Published in association with Uitgeverij Waanders b.v., Zwolle. 192 pp. with 188 ills. (22 col.). 28 x 23 cm. LC 91-106412 ISBN 9066302402 In Dutch.
Including reproductions of some 90 drawings, watercolors and other works by Van Gogh depicting The Hague and its working classes, this catalogue provides a thorough study of the artist's life and work during his sojourns in the city in the early 1870s and 80s. Six essays examine Van Gogh's thematic concerns, the significance of the exhibited works in the context of his oeuvre, and his relationships with other Hague artists (such as Mauve, Breitner, Weissenbruch and Van Rappard), whose depictions of the city are also illustrated and discussed.
