Focused primarily on an allegorical ceiling fresco (1734-35) on the theme of good government produced by Lombard Rococo painter Carlo Innocenzo Carloni for the Ansbach palace of Margrave Carl Wilhelm Friedrich, this scholarly catalogue features six essays discussing the artist's career, techniques and style and the architectural setting and iconography of the fresco. Reproductions and extensive analyses of 30 additional paintings and drawings by Carloni are supplemented by numerous reference illustrations that suggest the broad scope of the artist's activities in Vienna, Prague and southern Germany.
