FLORENCE HENRI: ARTIST-PHOTOGRAPHER OF THE AVANT-GARDE. Diana C. du Pont. San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, 1990. 158 pp. with 151 ills. 31 x 25 cm. LC 90-8861 ISBN 0918471176 In English.
Accompanying the first major exhibition devoted to innovative but comparatively little-known European photographer Henri (1893-1982), this catalogue presents a survey based largely on the American-born artist's works of the 1930s, which range from still lifes of geometric forms to portraits, photomontages and oddly angled views of architectural details. A lengthy introductory essay stresses Henri's experimental approaches to technique and composition, inspired by her studies at the Bauhaus with Moholy-Nagy.
