This well-illustrated catalogue presents predominantly sociological discussions of 45 paintings and some 40 diverse prints, drawings, photographs and sculptures in which food-related imagery functions as a primary or subordinate thematic device. Although the selection encompasses paintings from the 19th and early 20th centuries, a majority of the works examined are by contemporary artists including Johns, Warhol, Thiebaud and other prominent and lesser-known figures.
