I HAVE LEFT YOU THE MOUNTAIN. Ed. by Simon Battistiet al. Venice Architecture Biennale, 2016. Published in association with Sternberg Press, Berlin. Distributed in the U.S.A. by Ram Publications, Santa Monica. 24 pp. 30 x 30 cm. ISBN 9783956792397 In English.
Publisher's description: The Albanian Pavilion at the 2016 Venice Architecture Biennale takes up the timely topic of migration by creating a space for collective listening. The accompanying LP and exhibition pamphlet presents 10 new texts on the architecture of displacement by contemporary Albanian writers and thinkers, set to music and sung by some of the last remaining groups of Albanian iso-polyphonic singers, an art form now protected by UNE SCO. A living art form, ancient Albanian tone singing has been a core part of processing departure, longing and return for generations in a country where half of their citizenry has been forced to migrate over the past century. By projecting the Albanian case onto the international stage, the project initiates a conversation about the urbanism of displacement with the express intention of transmitting that dialogue and its speculations back into Albania. Contributions by Etel Adnan, Mourid Barghouti, Michel Butor, Claire Fontaine, Yona Friedman, Anri Sala, Michael Taussig, Yanis Varoufakis, Ornela Vorpsi and Finn Williams.
