VINCENT VAN GOGH: THE LOST ARLES SKETCHBOOK. Bogomila Welsh-Ovcharov. Abrams, New York, 2016. 280 pp. with 317 ills. (299 col.). 39 x 26 cm. ISBN 9781419725944 In English.
Documenting a "lost" sketchbook containing 65 drawings purportedly produced by Van Gogh between 1888 and 1890 during his time in Arles and Saint-Remy-de-Provence, this book includes essays and detailed commentaries by art historian Bogomila Welsh-Ovcharov and a foreword by Van Gogh scholar Ronald Picvance, but the volume makes no mention of the larger controversy surrounding the previously unknown sketchbook, namely that experts at the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam have long questioned its authenticity and maintain that the works cannot be attributed to Van Gogh.
