THE SICK MAN OF EUROPE: THE PAINTER. Dor Guez. Mosaic Rooms, London, 2015. Distributed in the U.S.A. by University of Chicago Press. 71 pp. with 45 ills. (20 col.). 27 x 17 cm. ISBN 9781900300643 In English.
Publisher's description: The Sick Man of Europe by artist Dor Guez presents his ambitious and moving work "The Painter," which is part of an ongoing project telling the story of a painter-turned-soldier, a Jewish Tunisian who immigrated to Israel. Conscripted into the Yom Kippur War as a reservist soldier in 1973, in recent years, the subject of Guez's art has also undergone psychiatric treatment for post-traumatic stress disorder, part of which manifests as him repeatedly recording his memories of the war. These recordings are central to Guez's work. The Sick Man of Europe includes selections from the films, photographs, original source materials, texts, and scanograms that make up the overall project, alongside an interview between the artist and "the painter" himself in addition to an essay by Achim Borchardt-Hume, head of exhibitions at Tate Modern.
