ANE HJORT GUTTU: EATING OR OPENING A WINDOW OR JUST WALKING DULLY ALONG. Bergen Kunsthall, 2016. Published by Sternberg Press, Berlin. Distributed in the U.S.A. by Ram Publications, Santa Monica. 224 pp. 25 x 20 cm. ISBN 9783956791482 In English.
Publisher's description: In her first major monograph, Oslo-based Norwegian multimedia artist, writer and curator Ane Hjort Guttu (b. 1971) presents not only her latest films at the Bergen Kunsthalle (2015), but also many past projects with insights into her work and methodology. Opening with a collaged found-image sequence and an informative introduction by curators Martin Clark and Steinar Sekkingstad, the handsome softcover catalog is divided into chapters on films and installations with essays by critic Kim West and curators Pablo Lfuente and Ekaterina Degot, plus an artist interview with Halvor Haugen. Guttu's video works, picture collections, sculpture and photography open up a reflexive conversation on the roles and responsibilities of the artist, the relationship between the aesthetic and the ethical, and the capacity of art to enable or include political effect or action. Hjort Guttu also writes analytical and poetical texts, and several of her projects discuss art and architectural history.
