Publisher's description: This reference book explains the current state of research on contemporary methods and procedures for dealing with historic timber structures. It summarizes the results of a buildings researchers' conference in late 2014 in Prague, which was dedicated to the three main aspects essential to dealing with historic timber structures: construction, architecture history, and repair and maintenance. Fourteen researchers examined centuries-old timber structures that included churches, farms, half-timbered houses, and log cabins in Europe and Russia. Based on the conclusions from these studies, they developed historically appropriate measures to repair and maintain wooden structures. Historical and contemporary photographs as well as new drawings document the studied buildings.
