CATHERINE CERESOLE: BEAUTY LIES IN THE EYE. Edition Patrick Frey, Zurich, 2013. Distributed 2015 in the U.S.A. by Ram Publications, Santa Monica. 318 pp. with 247 ills. (26 col.). 29 x 21 cm. ISBN 9783905929430 In English.
Publisher's description: Captivated by the city's underground music scene, Catherine Ceresole and her husband Nicolas moved to New York in 1979. They befriended a number of musicians and Catherine began photographing them at their concerts and in intimate settings. The result is an exciting and atmospheric photographic document of the New York punk, no-wave and avant-garde music scene during its heyday. With her keen eye for drama and her use of black and white film, Ceresole captures them all on film: David Byrne, John Zorn, Sonic Youth, The Beastie Boys, Nick Cave, Black Flag, Lou Reed, Lydia Lunch, Glenn Branca, Arto Lindsay, Christian Marclay, and many others. Additional photographs from the 90s through 2013, an essay on the period, and a conversation between Catherine Ceresole, Emmanuel Grandjean, Nicolas Ceresole and Francis Baudevin round out this visual history by a unique and talented photographer introduced here to a broader public for the first time.
