Reproducing a series of 24 images made in 2000 and 2001 by prominent American photographer Sternfeld (b. 1944) that document New York City's High Line when it was still an abandoned elevated railway slated for demolition, this new edition is augmented by 26 archival and contemporary photographs chronicling the development of Manhattan's Lower West Side since the mid-19th century, from the decades before the elevated line was installed, through its construction, heyday and decline, to its dramatic rebirth in 2009 as a public park and pedestrian walkway.
