Two of the volumes of this publication are based on the work of 19th-century French critic Edmond de Goncourt, while the third volume is based on the writings of Mikhail Uspenski, former curator of the Japanese art collections of the Hermitage Museum in Saint Petersburg, but the publisher has not made clear the exact source of the text presented here in translation; volume one (Utamaro) and volume 2 (Hokusai) are also available for purchase separately (see Worldwide 128692 and 135334 respectively).
