Drawing from a large archive of prints and negatives held privately by Curatorial Assistance in Los Angeles, this book surveys a body of images taken in Australia in 1930 by German-born British photographer Emil Otto Hoppe (1878-1972) for his landmark publication The Fifth Continent (Simpkin Marshall, London, 1931); although Curatorial Assistance has recently organized various projects related to the Hoppe archive, this publication does not specifically document an exhibition.
