ISBN-13: 978-0-691-12276-2. This classic study of Durer by renowned art historian Erwin Panofsky (1892-1968) was first published in two volumes in 1943 and republished in 1955 as a one-volume edition retaining the complete text and illustrations but omitting the outdated Handlist of the Works of Durer and the concordance that constituted the second volume; this new edition is a reprint of the 1955 volume with a new introduction examining the creation and early critical reception of Panofsky's Durer monograph.
